First, while in noob-river mode, you'll want a base in G6 (right near the Hand of the Maker) or the island in the river at I5 on your map. Both offer great access to thralls, iron, coal and adventure spots.You want either 40 or 50 vit depending on personal preference. For pve I'd recommend 40 vit 50 str.
